LocationISDN 2008 will take place at the Asilmar Conference Grounds situated along the shoreline of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and centrally located within the Monterey Peninsula in Pacific Grove, California, USA.
Set among the sand dunes and Monterey pines and cypresses, Asilomar offers a relaxed and scenic location for our conference. The buildings were designed by Julia Morgan - California's first licensed female architect – and built between 1919 and 1928. They constitute her largest collection of Arts & Crafts style architecture in one location and are listed as a National Historic Landmark and are listed on the Registrar of Historic Places. Many of the rooms have open beams and fireplaces. Guest rooms are located in quaint lodge buildings and many have a fireplace and balcony, or private deck. Delegates can take a morning walk along a coastal trail or a sunset stroll in the neighboring dunes boardwalk. Conference Ground facilities feature a heated pool, volleyball, and a social hall with ping pong, grand piano and billiards. The venue is just minutes from such scenic destinations as Carmel and Monterey, with the famous ‘17-Mile Drive’ leading travelers to unique sight-seeing, shopping, golf, sport fishing, boating, horseback riding and entertainment. Though many assume California is warm year round, the Pacific Ocean has a great effect on the climate. Afternoons are usually quite pleasant, but mornings and evenings can be much cooler. It is recommended that guests dress in layers and pack a jacket and an umbrella. You may also consider bringing binoculars, as bird watching is a favorite pastime on the grounds of Asilomar.
