Shubha Tole, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), India
Shubha Tole obtained her BSc from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai (1987). Her MSc and PhD are from Caltech, USA. After a post-doc at the University of Chicago, she started her lab at the Tata Institute in Mumbai in 1999, with a Wellcome Trust Senior International Fellowship. Her research interests focus on the mechanisms that shape the development of the brain. Tole’s lab discovered an “organizer” in the developing brain, a signalling centre that induces the formation of the hippocampus (Mangale et al., 2008).
Tole has received national and international recognition for her work, including the Research Award for Innovation in Neurosciences (2008) from the Society for Neuroscience. She offers workshops in ethics, communication, and outreach, and also writes blogs to provide guidance and mentorship to younger colleagues.
