Mohamed Kabbaj, Florida State University, USA
Professor Kabbaj earned his Ph.D. at Bordeaux II University (France) under the supervision of Professor Stefania Maccari, and then completed five years of postdoctoral study at the Mental Health Research Institute at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) with Dr. Huda Akil. Then, Dr. Kabbaj joined the department of biomedical sciences at the Florida State University College of Medicine in August 2002 where he went through the academic ranks, and was promoted full professor with tenure in 2012. Dr. Kabbaj's research focus on understanding the neurobiology underlying individual differences and sex differences in depression and drug addiction. Another focus of his research is to examine epigenetic mechanisms underlying social behaviors in the monogamous specie prairie voles. Dr. Kabbaj has more than 80 publications, many of which are in excellent journals like Nature Neuroscience, Neuron, Journal of Neuroscience, etc. Dr. Kabbaj has been funded throughout his career by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Drug addiction.
